St David's Cathedral Pembrokeshire

Photographs of the Gatehouse and Cathedral are reproduced by kind permisson of the Dean. The invaluable assistance of Nona Rees, cathedral librarian and archivist is gratefuly acknowledged.

The unique purple stone for the very extensive restoration undertaken over years at St David's was quarried at low tide at Caerbwdy Bay, a few miles away. A dangerous occupation in itself but even more hazardous was the journey up the cart tracks - carrying the stone on stretchers to the areas where it was worked.

It is also said that Ralph invented a unique formula for slow-drying concrete for certain repairs to the roof of the Cathedral
